Tom LaDuke

While exploring the website for the Guggenheim I stumbled upon one of Tom LaDukes pieces, 'WNTR PRK'. Tom LaDuke seems to be exploring the expanses of gritty cities, the glow of lights, and polluted skies. He works with very industrial feeling materials such as, military enamel, watercolor, glow-in-the-dark polymer clay, and decals on aluminum. The feel of his work is dark, but honest. LaDuke says that he was influenced by the idea of moving through time and the landscape that is created by everyone in the world. We all have contributed to the world not just the fat cats and celebrities of society. Tom uses the metaphor of a train or metro moving between point A and point B to suggest time. In one of his pieces he composed a piece of music and then used the sheet music to determine the placement of abstract faces in the piece. Tom LaDuke could best fit in the Contemporary Art category. His work could maybe fit well with some of Iva Gueorguieva's work. She too explores the "places where nothing is wrong but something wrong..." which fits with the idea that our world may seem well and fine on the surface, but deeper there is pollution.

Also, while looking throughout the website for the Guggenheim I was drawn to many of the Cubists' works. I personally found the angles very interesting and visually appealing.

Jordan's AP Art Blog

Jordan's AP Art Blog.

"Art On The Half Tip" is a reference to the quote, "Babies on the half tip" (Lady in the Water).

Fun Fact.
