Artist Statement (Take Two)

In my concentration I am exploring the structure and flow in a collection of botanical-like drawings of various plants. I was inspired by the natural elegance of plants and the rough geometric shapes of man-made structures. This inspiration led to the placement of geometric shapes, squares, in amongst the plants as a way to guide the eye through the drawing and to serve as a juxtaposition between flowing lines and hard corners. Throughout the concentration both natural and geometric forms are present with varying degrees of dominance. Through size, amount, and occasional color, I want to show the struggle between man and nature (and a possible beauty in co-existence).

Artist Statement (Prototype)

The basis of my concentration is derived from an observation of architecture, man made structure, and a biological study of botanical drawings. I am exploring structure and flow in a concentration of botanical-like drawings of various plants. Amongst the plants are ordered, with a slightly chaotic feel, geometric shapes with the purpose of guiding the eye through the drawing with an aesthetics feel and evoke a contrast between the sharp edges of made by man and the elegant flow of nature. Throughout the concentration nature and man are constantly present with varying degrees of one dominating the other. Through size, amount, and occasional color. I want to show the struggle between development and the Cultural Mandate. I'm searching for an equilibrium and Shalom with nature and man.
